#4: Jama’ Taqdim for Friday and ‘Asar Prayers

Question:

Is it permissible to perform jama’ taqdim for Friday and ‘Asar prayers?

Answer:

The permissibility of performing jama’ for prayers is explained in several hadiths of the Prophet PBUH. Among them is as narrated from Mu’az bin Jabal, where he said:

“The Prophet (ﷺ) combined the Zuhr and ‘Asr, and the Maghrib and ‘Isha’ when traveling during the campaign of Tabuk.” [1]

The ruling for jama’ taqdim for Friday and ‘Asar prayers is permissible according to the statement presented by Imam al-Khatib al-Syirbini:

(It is permissible for travellers) in a distance that permits him to perform qasar for his prayers (to converge Zohor and ‘Asar prayers at the time he prefers), whether it is taqdim or ta’khir (and) converging two prayers (Maghrib and Isya’, at the time he prefers), whether taqdim or ta’khir. As for Friday prayer, its ruling is the same with Zohor prayer in terms of jama’ taqdim.” [2]

Thus, it is permissible to perform jama’ taqdim for Friday and ‘Asar prayer. Wallahua’lam.
